Weight Loss Basics
The weight loss basics are all about numbers. Just like the numbers on food labels help you balance your diet, a balance of addition and subtraction is what you need. For instance, did you know that 1 pound of fat equals roughly 3500 calories? That sounds like a lot doesn't it? Well, it's not. That only equals out to be 500 extra calories per day. Still sound like a lot of calories? Not if you eat 1 pack of Twix candy between meals. That's about 400 calories right there. Don't even think about that soda you washed it down with. All you need to eat is 500 more calories than you burn in a day to gain 1 pound of fat by the end of the week. But let's take it one step further. What if you only ate 250 calories more than you burn in a day? That's right, you would gain 1 pound in about two weeks. Do you see the pattern? This number pattern is why weight gain sneaks up on so many people. Every calorie counts, so you must count the calories. Yes, even 1 or 2 here and there, especially if you do not exercise. A low calorie diet with exercise is the best way to lose weight, but if you are not motivated enough to exercise, chose the next best thing and become a calorie counter. Calorie counting may just save your life. The weight loss basics will also help to manage the daily caloric numbers game.
People who exercise regularly, burn more calories than the rest of us. But, and this is a BIG BUT, (no pun intended) if they eat more than they burn, they will also gain fat. Just look at some football players. A lot of them are on high calories diets just so the other team will have trouble moving them. Don't you think they burn a lot of calories? So why are some of them still fat? Hmmm? The good news is (if you would call it good news) as you gain weight you also burn more calories. So that extra weight you are carrying around slows the weight gain a little. This is the reason some people reach a certain weight a stop gaining if their eating habits stay the same. The weight loss basics are not a cure all, but they are the main ingredient to your weight loss success. Whether you use fat blockers, diet pills that "boost" your metabolism,or join a weight loss program that sells you your food. They are trying to do what? Stop the collection of extra fat in the body. Did you ever wonder how Weight Watchers' point system works? Their point system are based off of calorie counting. That's right, they use the weight loss basics to help you minimize your caloric intake. It's just like saying that I use the number six and Weight Watchers uses 1/2 dozen. It's the same thing, just different units of measurements. Weight Watchers is a great program by the way.
